What do you understand by IGS file format?

IGS files are mostly commonly associated with 2D & 3D vector graphic images. This file format is based on the IGES (Initial Graphic Exchange Specification). It is mostly used by a variety of CAD (computer aided design) applications. IGS is the standard file format for exporting 3D model files between different CAD programs. These type of a file is a CAD file type that contains two or three dimensional vector graphics which are typically stored in plain text ASCII format. In this file contain models, design and several types of objects. This file format defines a vendor neutral data formats that allows the digital exchange of info among Computer-Aided Design(CAD) systems.

• Step 1- Select IGS file on your PC
• Step 2- Double click on a IGS File
• Step 3- Go to “open with” option and select compatible application that open IGS file

Note: If compatible application not installed in your PC, so you download a IGS viewer tool that opens a IGS file.

File Header- The file header contains basic information about the name of the file and its sources. In the Start, field contains human readable description of the file and general information. The global section contains preprocessor data & also must be present in the file.

File Data- The file data sections contain the information on the basic data of the IGES file format & its entities.

Entities-Entities are supported for import into ICE.
